FELFEL Refrigerator

Industry:

Gastronomy

Year:

2015 - 2017

Brief

Initial Situation:

Before implementing the order, there was no integrated system for managing the entire production chain. The processes for labeling fresh products, logistics, and location management were partially manual or covered by various non-interconnected systems. This led to inefficient processes, increased administrative effort, and potential sources of error. Additionally, there was a lack of a central interface to enable data exchange between web and device-based applications, which made the digitalization and automation of processes more difficult.

Goal:

The order included the development of a comprehensive system that manages the complete production chain. The solution took over the automatic labeling of fresh products, logistics, and location management. In this context, an extensive API was developed that enabled data exchange between web and device-based applications.

Project Steps

Strategy Development/Analysis

At the beginning of the project, the existing processes were analyzed and the requirements for the new comprehensive system were defined together with the stakeholders. Existing challenges, system breaks, and optimization potentials were identified. Additionally, an architecture strategy was developed that ensured a scalable and future-proof solution. A special focus was placed on seamless integration of the various systems and long-term maintainability by Felfel's internal team.

Prototyping

Based on the analysis results, a prototype was developed to test the core functions of the system early and make optimizations. This included testing the automatic labeling of fresh products, logistics control, and interfaces for data exchange between web and device-based applications. End-user feedback was incorporated into the further development of the prototype to ensure that the solution meets operational requirements.

Implementation

After successful validation of the prototype, the comprehensive system was implemented step by step. This included the development of the API, the integration of systems, and the implementation of software for the various process areas. In parallel, Felfel employees were involved in the development processes to familiarize them early with the new technology and enable them for independent further development.

Commissioning/Training

After technical implementation, the system was integrated into the existing infrastructure and put into operation. During this phase, intensive tests were conducted to ensure smooth functionality. Simultaneously, Felfel employees were specifically trained to be able to independently develop and maintain the software. Through practical training and documentation, sustainable knowledge transfer was ensured, enabling the internal team to operate the system independently in the long term.

Result

FELFEL delivers a selection of fresh and tasty food to your customers' refrigerators daily. The company employees there can obtain the products after identification with an NFC-capable chip. The installed POS application informs and handles the purchase process.
