Brief Description

Initial Situation:

Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is Switzerland's state-owned railway company headquartered in Bern. As a special statutory corporation fully owned by the Swiss Confederation, SBB places particular emphasis on the safety of its passengers and employees.

Objective:

As part of an innovation tender, inaffect AG was commissioned to develop digitalization concepts. The SBB Emergency Button, one of two accepted concepts, enables immediate alerting of security personnel or cantonal police in case of security-relevant incidents through an innovative IoT switch.

Web Portal

The developed web portal provides security personnel with a comprehensive overview of all security incidents. Through integrated push notifications, new incidents are immediately signaled. An innovative three-dimensional situation map visualizes the calculated movement patterns of potential targets and enables quick localization of moving groups.

Hardware

Custom hardware was developed for this project. The compact form factor matches the size of a five-franc coin, enabling discreet and practical handling. The battery is designed for a 5-year lifespan. Data transmission occurs via the energy-efficient LoRaWAN network. For user guidance, an LED and mini speaker are integrated, signaling the sending and receiving of data.

Intelligence

The system features advanced intelligence for calculating movement patterns and their probabilities. A special innovation is the integration of digital voice output, which automatically informs security personnel about incidents. This technology enables seamless integration into existing security infrastructures without complex adaptations.

Security

A central aspect of the project is ensuring the highest security standards in communication. All data transmissions comply with SBB's strict security requirements and are transmitted in encrypted form. The system was specifically designed and implemented for the sensitive requirements in public transport.

Results

With the SBB Emergency Button, an innovative security system has been developed that significantly reduces response time to security-relevant incidents. The combination of compact hardware and intelligent software enables efficient and reliable alerting of security forces.

The successful integration into the existing SBB infrastructure and the positive feedback from security staff confirm the added value of this solution for public transport safety.
